Volcano photography is extremely humbling (13 images)

These photos are of the 2010 eruption of a volcano on one of Iceland’s mountain glacier ice caps called Eyjafjallajökull.  (Yes, that’s the name, and for the sake of time, I will not be typing it again)  Though (relatively) small, the eruption caused a serious disruption to air travel in Europe for nearly a week in April of 2010.

I’m scared of many things, and these pictures are good examples of why volcanic eruptions are on the list.  I mean, this was a small eruption, I don’t even want to think about a big one.  Oh, and also – volcanic lightning.  As if they weren’t scary enough on their own, they have their own lightning.

Though frightening, the photography is terribly compelling.  There truly is beauty in the destruction and outright violence of the whole thing.
