Bizarre egg + vinegar experiment (12 images)

This is one I have to try:  take an egg and place it into a bowl / cup full of vinegar and leave for 3-7 days (I found some discrepancies here, some said three days, others said a week), and you will end up with….well you’ll just have to scroll down to see.

Basically, eggs contain calcium carbonate, and when it comes into contact with an acetic acid (the vinegar) a chemical reaction occurs creating carbon dioxide.  The reaction lasts as long as it takes for all of the carbon to be drawn out of the egg, leaving you with….that thing.  If anyone cares to do this at home and take pictures, head over to the Contact section and I’ll post them up here at The Drafting Club.
