Afghans get their pictures taken for the first time (15 images)

This story sort of blew me away when I read it over at My Modern Met, and I just had to share it.  Basically, French photographers Fabrice Nadjari and Cedric Houin traveled to the Wakhan corridor in Afghanistan to document the people and way of life there.  Many of these people had never even seen a camera or photograph, so the duo took Polaroids of them to have as souvenirs.

Below are images of the people with their souvenir Polaroids.  It’s difficult to imagine having lived your whole life without ever having seen a camera or photograph.  The series serves as a pretty incredible reminder of the power of photography.
