Papercraft stop motion animated video for the band Ödland (1 video)

This is another great stop-motion animation by directed by Vincent Pianina and Lorenzo Papace.  It is actually a music video for the song Østersøen by Papace’s band called Ödland. I love the antiquated look the video is able to pull off, and it fits well with the style of recording used for the song.  It seems that music videos increasingly tend to distract from the music they’re accompanying, so it’s nice to see a band put out something that augments the music and pulls you further into the song.   [via...

Abandoned prison in Australia (26 images)

So I’ve been a little under the weather this week, and haven’t had a chance to update the blog until now.  Apologies for that.  But I’m pretty excited about the two posts for today. I’m not exactly sure why, but I love photos of abandoned buildings.  Sure, overall, abandoned buildings are sort of depressing; but there is usually an abundance of unique and interesting textures created by the dilapidation. This prison in Fremantle, Australia is a good example of what I’m talking about.  It’s an eerie...

Urban Plant Tags guerrilla art installations (6 images)

These Urban Plant Tags are the work of the Carmichael Collection, which is a noteworthy organization that does creative projects simply for the sake of doing creative projects.  If you click on the link above you can check out some of their other work as well. These tags are great because they’re so startling.  It’s a simple, yet brilliant way to draw attention to urban “pollution” of sorts.  There is so much in our daily lives that we have conditioned ourselves to tune out, but maybe it’s worth taking note of...

Stunning artwork by Tom Whalen (25 images)

A friend of mine sent me a link to Tom Whalen’s deviantART page yesterday, and I was an immediate fan.  His sense of color and contrast is incredibly inspiring, and his work has a sense of both elegance and whimsy.  They’re created in a way that almost makes them seem as if they’re moving. Mr. Whalen is one of those artists that humbles me when I see just how much work he has put out – and how good it all is.  What you see below is merely a fraction of the work he has posted on his deviantART profile and his website,...

This may look like a Ferrari – but it’s actually a bicycle (11 images, 1 video)

This may look like a Ferrari – but it’s actually a bicycle (11 images, 1 video)

This kind of blew my mind when I saw it – a pedal-powered bicycle “Ferrari” called the Fahrradi Farfall FFX.  Okay, “bicycle” probably isn’t the right word, and granted, once you take a closer look, it’s obvious that it isn’t a Ferrari.  But all things considered, let’s just say they did wayyy better than I ever could have. It’s also sort of strange that I came across this, since it is my second ever Ferrari-related post, and my first was yesterday.  Maybe fate is trying to tell...

Incredible minimalist film posters (31 images)

Your weekly reminder that less is more – an amazing minimalist film poster series. There is not a whole lot to say about these, they sort of speak for themselves.  But I will say, sometimes the most obvious design is the hardest to come up with.  These are good examples of designers who understand that concept and put it into...

Carbon fiber wrapped Ferrari F40 (10 images)

Now, I’m not saying that I would do this if I had a Ferrari F40, but, I still think it’s pretty legit.  Especially the way the rain beads off the exterior, makes it look like the Batmobile or something. I do like all black cars, so I can support that part of it.  Especially with the black rims, it just looks mean, like it might take your lunch money if you keep staring at it.  Maybe I’ll look into getting my Toyota wrapped in carbon fiber.                     [via...

London in the 1870s (37 images)

I love stumbling across collections of old photographs, and this series depicting the streets of London in 1876-1877 is really cool. The photos were posted on the Flickr stream of the British Library of Political and Economic Science and give us a glimpse into what life was like in 1870s London.  As far as I can tell, people took beards way more seriously back then, which, as a bearded man myself, I can respect.  Also, in one of the pictures, it looks like a man is wearing some sort of platform shoe, which was kind of baffling. My...

A nod to Maurice Sendak (7 images)

I know I’m a little late on this, but I didn’t get a chance to update the site yesterday after I learned that Maurice Sendak passed away.  But I wanted to do something, and this was one of the coolest things I came across about Mr. Sendak and his work. This comic was originally published in The New Yorker and was written and illustrated by Art Spiegelman about his visit and subsequent conversation with Sendak at his home in Connecticut, and I think it’s just great. Where the Wild Things Are is and will always be one of my...

Short film: The Eagleman Stag (1 video)

Again, I must apologize up front for the length of this video (it’s pushing nine minutes), but I can’t pass it up.  It is a beautifully crafted stop-animation by UK-based animator Mikey Please, and the amount of work that went into it is just staggering. The figures were made out of a unique foam material that gives them an eerily polished look.  The piece used over 115  different sets, and the lighting is some of the best I’ve ever seen on an animated short like this. The story follows Peter Eagleman, a man obsessed with...
